Giacomo Ascheri Verduno Pelaverga 2015

Giacomo Ascheri Verduno Pelaverga 2015

Located in the subregion of Verduno in Barolo, the Pelaverga grape nearly went extinct until a few producers brought it back to life. (And no wonder they did—it’s rumored to be an aphrodisiac!) This wine is produced with a non-profit that seeks to bring Piedmont’s rich history back to the forefront.

Tasting Notes: Tart, sour cherries and macerated strawberries open to slow-building tannins that beg for food. While soft and understated, this wine is simple, but its balance makes it ideal for virtually any meal.

Pairings: Duck, mushroom risotto, artichoke hearts, beet salad.

Varietal: Pelaverga
Soil Type: white soil interspersed with limestone & clay
Fermentation: 8 days in stainless steel
Aging: 8 months in stainless steel
Special Notes: only 375 cases produced
