Los Bermejos Lanzarote Listán Negro 2015

Los Bermejos Lanzarote Listán Negro 2015

In 1730, a massive volcano eruption covered the Lanzarote island in lava. Today, this volcanic soil leaves the area’s sparse greenery exposed to damaging winds, so wineries build walls around each individual vine to protect their crop—a beautiful sight that’s worth the Google image search!

Tasting Notes: This wine’s volcanic minerality is so palpable it’s nearly ashy, and its focused strawberry funk intertwines with a seedy, sour jam to make a light-bodied study in wines from this uniquely bizarre terroir.

Pairings: Poultry, lamb stew, Spanish cheeses.

Varietal: hand-harvested Listán Negro
Soil Type: black volcanic soil
Fermentation: stainless steel
Aging: 5 months in French oak
