Palmina Santa Barbara County Barbera 2013

Palmina Santa Barbara County Barbera 2013

Pre-Prohibition, California winemakers grew Italian varietals almost exclusively, but switched to French ones after the repeal. Here, Palmina gives a rare glimpse into what the California winescape could have become had vintners continued to forge their original winemaking path.

Tasting Notes: This zippy red is tart and acidic, with notes of fresh raspberry and blackberry on the nose, and earthy balsamic with deeper expressions of red fruit on the palate. Serve party chilled.

Pairings: Pork chops, carnitas, eggplant Parmesan, veggie-lovers pizza.

Varietal: Barbera
Soil Types: alluvial rock, sandy loam
Fermentation: stainless steel
Aging: 8 months in neutral oak plus 1 year in stainless steel
