Gamay is almost exclusively produced in Beaujolais, but winemakers from around the world are starting to experiment with what they’ve discovered to be a very malleable grape. The complex, gravely soil of Hawke’s Bay makes for one of most exciting expressions we’ve encountered as of yet.

Tasting Notes: While notes of light wood smoke and grilled meat form on the nose, plum, dark cherry, raspberry, and the slightest bit of chocolate create a light, but luscious mouthfeel that’s as complex as it is delicious.

Pairings: Poultry, lamb stew, Spanish cheeses.

Varietals: Gamay Noir
Soil Type: sandy loam over gravel
Fermentation: 50% carbonic maceration, 50% malolactic fermentation
Aging: each aged 7 weeks in seasoned French oak
